The Dog Who Started Everything

Every journey has a beginning.

Ours began in Derbyshire with a young rescue spaniel called Bruce.

He came into our lives when my daughter was just four years old, and for the next twelve years he became part of the rhythm of our family.

Together we wandered through Derbyshire woodlands, explored around Matlock Bath, discovered nature reserves and escaped to the beaches of England's east coast. Bruce was happiest simply being with us, wherever the path happened to lead.

I didn't know then that those ordinary days would eventually help shape something much bigger.

After Bruce passed away, life took me north to the Scottish Highlands. Years later, when the idea for Bothy & Bark began to grow, I realised that so much of what I wanted it to represent had started with him: dogs beside us, time outdoors, simple pleasures, loyalty, companionship and the feeling of home.

Bruce never made it to the Highlands, but his pawprints are all over Bothy & Bark.
